Church urged to pray for government

By Paul Shalala

Green Economy and Environment Minister COLLINS NZOVU has urged the church to pray for government as it prepares to address energy, water and food challenges due to the drought.

Mr. NZOVU, who is also Nangoma Member of Parliament, says the church has always stood steadfast in times when the country has faced challenges.

He says there is need for prayers to help the country come out of the current climatic challenges.

Speaking when he addressed congregants at Lubanze Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Mumbwa, Mr. NZOVU said the drought will create energy deficits, water and food shortages.

He said there is need for the clergy to guide the nation and intercede to seek God’s intervention.

And SDA Nangoma Mission District Pastor WAMUNYIMA WALUBITA said God does not abandon his children even in the most difficult situations.

Pastor WALUBITA said Christians who are going through difficult times must seek the face of God and pray for divine intervention.

He said God always helps his own children as long as they have faith.

Meanwhile, Mr. NZOVU has commissioned the construction of a One by Three classroom block at Nakabu Primary School.

Mr. NZOVU said the increase in pupil enrolment at the school from 600 before the implementation of Free Education to the current 1200 means more classroom space is needed to accommodate new pupils.

He said the 100 percent increase in the pupil population shows that hundreds of pupils had abandoned school as their parents were struggling to pay fees before the implementation of the Free Education Policy.

Mr. NZOVU promised that the contractor will do quality works and complete the job by June this year.

And Zambia Industrial Commercial Bank Chief Executive Officer IGNATIUS MWANZA said the bank has funded the construction of the classroom block at the School to assist government in implementing the Free Education Policy.

Mr. MWANZA said the bank is spending 850 thousand kwacha on the project.

The one by three classroom block is being built by Techcon Investments which has a 90 day period of construction.
