CHOMA GIVES OUT CASH TRANSFER

Choma District has received about 4.8 million kwacha for vulnerable beneficiaries under the Social Cash Transfer programme.

Government through the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services has also scaled up the number of beneficiaries under the programme from 5,721 to 9,243 for the district.

Choma District Social Welfare Officer KAZEMBE ZYAMBO says the bi-monthly payments for beneficiaries have also been increased from 600 kwacha for the disabled to 800 kwacha and from 300 kwacha for the able-bodied, to 400 kwacha.

And speaking when he flagged off the payment, Choma District Commissioner SIKALEYA GAMELA urged the beneficiaries to prudently use the money to eliminate extreme poverty and hunger at household level.

He noted that it is important for beneficiaries to come up with sustainable means of utilizing the funds as payments are bi-monthly.

And the beneficiaries have thanked government for increasing the amounts.

SIMON KAZOKA, who represented the beneficiaries, assured that the funds will be used prudently.

He explained that the increased amounts will not only promote food security at household level, but also enable them to venture into more viable projects such as livestock rearing.
