Chipyoka Songa set to leave U20 camp & join Zesco in Durban

Country versus club tug war has re-surfaced after Zesco United recalled forward Chipyoka Songa from under-20 duty in Eswatini.

Straight from winning player of the match in AFCON Under-20 | Cosafa Qualifier opener on Friday, Songa is expected to make a short trip from Mbabane to Durban.

The 18 year old scored a penalty to help the Junior Chipolopolo to a 3-0 win over Mauritius as Zambia seek to qualify to AFCON U20.

The top two from this tournament will qualify for the CAF U20 African Cup of Nations in Egypt next year.

The semi finalists at Egypt 2023 will automatically qualify to the FIFA U20 World Cup.

Despite the magnitude of the task in Eswatini, Zesco United have insisted on having the winger for their crucial CAF Confederations Cup first leg tie against South African side Royal AM on Sunday.

It will be interesting to see if Songa will return to Mbabane after Sunday’s tie at Moses Mabhida Stadium or travel with Zesco to Ndola for the return leg.

He will definitely miss Sunday’s match day 2 tie against Eswatini.

Chisi Mbewe’s will wrap up Group A fixtures with a date against Botswana on Tuesday.
