CHINGOLA COUNCIL DISINFECT SCHOOLS

By Brian Mwale:The Chingola City Council has disinfected 23 out of the 57 schools in the district as part of preparation to reopen schools for exam classes on June first.Chingola District Health Director Donald Mwanza says the team spraying schools has spread out in the district and targets to complete the exercise in the remaining 34 schools within a week so that schools are ready for reopening.Mr. Mwanza has told Minister of General Education David Mabumba who took part in the disinfecting at Nchanga Secondary School that the team is using a chemical called Pynol to disinfect classes as it lasts for six months on surfaces and kills any virus that comes on it.He however said his team will be disinfecting the schools every Friday.And Mr. Mabumba applauded the multi sectoral approach being employed in Chingola to prepare for reopening of schools and avoid an education crisis.He reiterated the need for all stakeholders to play a key role to ensure that schools become the safest havens for children amidst the Coronavirus pandemic.And when addressing parents, teachers and Head teachers at Chingola Secondary School, Mr. Mabumba said President Edgar Lungu will make decisions to reopen the non exam classes based on daily data and happenings on the ground.Mr. Mabumba has so far inspected schools in Chingola, Chililabombwe and Kitwe on the copperbet province but will extend to Masaiti, Ndola, Luanshya and Mpongwe district to ensure that all is set for reopening exam classes on first June.
