CHINA TO PROVIDE MORE COVID VACCINES

Chinese Ambassador to Zambia Lie Jie has announced that his Government will provide Two billion doses of Sinopharm to developing countries by the end of this year, as part of the global efforts to fight the pandemic.

Mr. Li says his Government arrived at this decision at the International Forum of Vaccines Corporation for producers of COVID-19 vaccine earlier this week.

He explained that his government will also provide One Hundred Million Dollars towards covax to help the United Nations organizations further mobilise resources.

Mr. Li was speaking in Lusaka today when One Hundred Thousand Sinopharm vaccines arrived in the country from China at Lusaka’s Kenneth Kaunda International Airport.

The Chinese Ambassador also disclosed that his Government has so far provided Seven Hundred and Seventy Million doses of Sinopharm to over one hundred countries in developing countries.

And United Nations resident Coordinator Coumba Mar Gadio has commended the Chinese Government for its continued support to the COVAX programme.

Meanwhile, Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary Kennedy Malama said the arrival of Sinopharm which is a two dose vaccine will help to fight the pandemic.
