Chiengi has 70 ‘Ghost’ Health Workers

(ZANIS) About 70 health workers are allegedly drawing salaries from the government payroll for Chiengi district in Luapula province, yet they do not work at in the district.Chiengi District Director of Health, Cardson Kabwe has confirmed to the development, adding that authorities are unable to trace the whereabouts of three of such workers.He has explained that this situation is significantly adversely affecting health services delivery in the area, because the physical head count of health staff is different from what is on paper.Dr Kabwe disclosed this during a District Senior Management meeting, which chaired by District Commissioner, Davies Kasongole.And, Mr Kasongole described the situation as unacceptable, promising to take up the issue with the relevant authorities.He said Chiengi has 13 health centres and a district hospital, against a population of about 150,000 people.
