Chiefs elated with HH drought pronouncement

The House of Chiefs says President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA’s declaration of the drought as a National disaster and emergency, is timely and a crucial step in mobilizing resources to mitigate the impact on communities.

And, House of Chiefs Chairperson, Chief CHISUNKA has praised the President for being swift and decisive in recognizing the gravity of the situation.

Chief CHISUNKA says the effects of climate change, particularly the prolonged dry spells and erratic rainfall patterns, have posed unprecedented challenges to agricultural systems, water sources, and the livelihoods of people.

The Chief who is also Luapula Province Chiefs Council Chairperson says the vulnerability of communities during these times requires collaborative and decisive action.

He told ZNBC News in a statement that traditional leaders will also work closely with the government and all relevant stakeholders to ensure that the relief efforts are properly coordinated and that no one is left behind.

He said through concerted efforts, Zambians can overcome the crisis and emerge stronger, more resilient than before.

Chief CHISUNKA also pledged that the traditional leaders will continue to work together to build a better and brighter future for all our people.
