Chief LUNDU of Chama district has appealed to government to urgently work on the damaged portion of the Mwata Lunzi bridge to reconnect the district to the rest of the country.

Chama District was cut off from the rest of the country after a portion of the access road on the Mwata Lunzi bridge along the Chama/Lundazi road was washed away following heavy rains.

The district cannot be accessed from both Muchinga and Eastern Provinces.

Early this year a portion of a road connecting Luangwa Bridge on the Chama-Matumbo Road was also damaged by heavy rains.

And Chief LUNDU said Chama district has now become an island because vehicles that carry essential goods, such as mealie meal cannot access the district.

The Chief has pleaded with President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA to help address the situation.

And, Chama District Commissioner YOBE GOMA says people are forced to use a diversion which passes through Malawi to go in and out of the district.
