Charity Shield launched, Set for Arthur Davies Stadium this Saturday

The Football Association of Zambia in conjunction with Atlasmara Bank held a launch for the Zambian League season opener, The Samuel ‘Zoom’ Ndhlovu Charity Shield.

Atlas Mara has come on board as the sponsors of this year’s Charity shield and has offered their Tenga mobile banking platform for people to donate towards the charity. Atlas Mara has committed to double whatever will be donated by the general public.

Atlas Mara Executive Director James Koni said the bank was happy to be involved with such a noble cause. Koni went on to call on the public to come on board and participate in raising funds for St Lawrence home of Hope.

“As Atlas Mara, we are glad to be with this because for us being involved in such events which involve a large part of the community is how we see our contribution towards our cooperate social responsibility,” he said.

“We have partnered with FAZ to raise funds for the Charity not just through the tournament but we will also be encouraging, We are inviting the public to take part in making donations towards this charity,” he added.

FAZ President Andrew Kamanga during his speech at the launch this morning at Southern Sun Hotel stressed the importance of the Charity shield and the partnership with Atlas Mara.

Kamanga was also quick to reiterate the importance, The great Samuel ‘Zoom’ Ndhlovu holds in the Zambian football circle because of his contribution both at the club and national team level.

“Over the years it has remained an important part of the football calendar, This year’s event is particularly special as it has brought on board a new cooperating partner in Atlas Mara. We are excited with Atlas Mara coming on board,” he said.

“This year’s event brings together two teams that have won their respective leagues, with 13 times Champions Nkana representing the Super and Indeni representing the Eden University National Division One league.”

This year’s Charity shield will see Super League Champions, Nkana squaring off with EDEN University/FAZ National Division One winner Indeni on the 24th of October.

The match will take place in Kitwe at Arthur Davies Stadium, the home of Power Dynamos and all proceeds from the match will be donated to St Lawrence home of hope.
