CHAN QUALIFIERS: Zambia Fails To Beat Mozambique

By Chansa Kunda

ZAMBIA has played to a goalless draw in the opening 2023 African Nations Championship -CHAN-qualifiers first leg encounter against Mozambique.

The first round, first leg played at the DO- ZIMPETO Stadium has seen both teams settle for a barren draw in a fixture that was tightly contested.

Chipolopolo Coach ALJOSA ASANOVIC put up a power packed starting eleven as striker ALBERT KANGWANDA who fired Zambia to victory in the 2022 COSAFA final coming off the bench started this afternoon.

With Goalkeeper MWENYA CHIBWE ruled out for the encounter, ASANOVIC maintained faith in CHARLES KALUMBA who helped the team keep a clean sheet at the hands of Mozambique who threatened on goal in both the first and second halves.

The Chipolopolo had a glimpse of hope in the game through Midfielder KELVIN KAMPAMBA who saw his efforts in intervals turn to wasted opportunities that would have fired the visitors in the lead.

Regulation time saw both teams settle for a draw as they have to decide the outcome of the fixture in the return leg to be played at the National Heroes Stadium on Saturday.
