Chadiza’s Zemba Police Post Closed after Residents Protest

GOVERNMENT has been forced to temporarily close Zemba police post in Chadiza after the local people threatened to set it ablaze following the confusion surrounding the death of two children in the area.

Confusion ensued in the area after they were told that a suspect who was detained in connection with the death of the two children would be released following the results of the postmortem that indicated that the children were not killed but that they drowned.

Chadiza district commissioner George Phiri said after the people rejected the first postmortem results, a pathologist from Lusaka was sent but when he carried new postmortems on the two bodies after exhuming them, the results were the same.

Phiri said after the local people were told that the suspect would be released because he was not connected to the two deaths they blocked the road and started stoning the police post.

He said the local people had earlier forced the suspect to admit the allegations that he was behind the deaths under duress.

Eastern Province police commissioner Luckson Sakala said operations at the police post were just halted briefly to beef up stuff.

The police post was closed last Monday.
