Catherine Phiri wins by tko as Tshabalala surrenders in first minute

FB_IMG_1472337265002World Boxing Council (WBC) Gold Bantamweight Champion Catherine Phiri has successfully defended her title against South Africa’s Gabisile Tshabalala.

Tshabalala surrendered after the first few blows after just 1 minute which solicited boos and disappointment from the crowd that had gathered at Lusaka’s New Government Complex.

The referee stopped the fight after what appeared like a dizzy spell suffered by Tshabalala.

Catherine expressed disappointment saying she prepared and was in camp for three (3) months and was ready to put herself to work in today’s fight.

Earlier Catherine had weighed in at 53.4 kilograms for WBC Gold female Championship bout.

Meanwhile, Oriental Quarries Boxing Promotions Manager Christopher Malunga commended the fans for the good discipline they displayed saying as disappointing as the easy win was, fights involving more experienced fighters have ended in as much time before.

Mr. Malunga said Catherine would now concentrate on school and will not have any boxing till her exams were over.
