Catherine loses WBC title to Mexican Mariana ‘Barbie’ Juarez
Female boxing sensation Catherine Phiri has lost her WBC bantamweight gold title to Mexican Mariana Juarez following a 10 round bout which was decided on points.This is Phiri’s second defeat in a 14-fight career that has recorded no draws. She went into the fight boasting a good away record, having won the same belt in Mexico against Yazmin Rivas last year.
The 37-year-old Juarez, nicknamed ‘Barbie’, won eight of the 10 rounds while Phiri only won two in a match held at the Arena Zócalo in Mexico City.
The Mexican’s record now stands at 58 fights with 45 wins, nine loses and four draws.
The fight was watched by renowned boxing promoter Don King who visited Catherine’s camp on Thursday.
