BUS, TAXI OWNERS NODS VEEP MEETING

The Bus and Taxi owners Association said it will wait forĀ  additional measures that government will consider to put in place against coronavirus for its members.Lusaka Province Association Chairman Peter Phiri says the association supports the holding of a meeting with the Vice President INONGE WINA for it will ensure safety of people that use public transport.Mr. Phiri told ZNBC News that the association is doing what it can to help in the covid-19 fight such as providing hand sanitisers to passengers.And National Chairperson who is based in Kitwe Sydney Chewe said members on the Copperbelt will wait for guildance from Government and are willing to comply because coronavirus is a national issue.Vice President Inonge Wina is tomorrow Monday scheduled to hold a meeting with the transport operators to discuss on how the sector could contribute in addressing the COVID-19 pandemic which now stands at 29 cases.And the Public and Private Drivers Association of Zambia has welcomed the meeting to be held tomorrow between transport operators and the Vice President Inonge Wina.PPDAZ President Josiah Majuru said the meeting has come at a right time when the country is faced with raising cases of COVID19.Mr Majuru said drivers have a high risk of being infected with the coronavirus as they are constantly in touch with passengers.He stressed that drivers are vulnerable enhance the need to institute measures to protect them and passenges adding that the meeting scheduled for tomorrow is important as it aims to address their welfare.Mr. Majuru said there is also need to discuss what measures should be put in place to maintain social distance.He further said the issue of cashing should be addressed at the proposed meeting if the number of passengers on buses is to be reduced.Mr. Majuru also appealed to the Ministry of Local government to reduce on the levy charged in bus stations.
