“BUDGET MEASURES TO SLOW DOWN DEBT”

By Ruth Chayinda

Presidential Spokesperson ANTHONY BWALYA says the measures outlined in the 2022 proposed national budget will help reduce the amount of debt accumulated in the past years.

Mr. BWALYA says the budget indicates that Government will borrow money aimed at refinancing the existing debt stock while 2-hundred million dollars will go into the health sector.

Speaking during a press briefing in Lusaka today, Mr. BWALYA said the country needs to deal with the debt crisis because it has negatively impacted on progress.

AND Mr. BWALYA said President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA in his engagement with the Eurobond holders and creditors assured them that Government will not fall back on its debt obligation.

He said it is also important that the Euro bond holders and creditors understand Zambia’s current economic situation.

Mr. BWALYA said the proposed 2022 national budget is transformative and plans to revive the country’s economy and improve the lives of people through better access to education and health among others

He noted that the increase in the Constituency Development Fund -CDF- is aimed at taking development closer to the people and not lamping the responsibility with Members of Parliament

MEANWHILE, Mr. BWALYA said President HICHILEMA who has been attending the Cop26 summit in Scotland has continued to represent the interest of the Zambian people and the continent.

He said Zambia has since signed up to the COP 26 pledge aimed at ending deforestation further saying it is all citizens’ responsibility to protect the ecosystem.

Mr. BWALYA said the President in the company of his ministers has been meeting high profile global business and political leaders where the prominent issue is on the use of technology to enhance response to climate change.

He also said the President has been wooing investment into Zambia because it is an attractive and safe investment location.

AND Mr. BWALYA has dispelled assertions that the UPND Government has a hand in the recent arrest of PF members.

He said the crusade against corruption and crime is fought by the investigative wings without interference from State House.
