Bruce Mwape to name squad for Colombia trip …New call ups expected

The Zambia Women’s national team will face off with South American side Colombia in an international friendly match next month. 

Coach Bruce Mwape will however be without a number of players as Green Buffaloes are away in Morocco at the CAF Champions League

The COSAFA Champions make up a huge chunk of the Copper Queens set up. 

Martha Tembo, Lushomo Mweemba, Agness Musesa, Ireen Lungu, and Natasha Nanyangwe were part of the squad that won bronze in Morocco in July and again part of the COSAFA Women’s Championship title winning team. 

Buffaloes newcomers Maweta ‘Gaucho’ Chilenga who scored the opening goal in the 4-0 win over Determine Girls and defender Esther Siamfuko are also part of Bruce Mwape’s setup. 

Mwape is expected to name his squad for the Colombia trip in the next few days with midfielder Evarine Susan Katongo expected to lead the squad. 

Other players expected to make the squad are Ochumba Oseke Lubanji,Mary Wilombe,Vast Phiri, Catherine Musonda, Rhoda Chileshe, Prisca Chilufya, and Esther ‘Gelo’ Banda. 

The Copper Queens will square off with the Las Chicas Superpoderosas in two matches as part of the two teams preparations for the FIFA Women’s World Cup. 

The two teams will play fellow World Cup bound Colombia on November 12th and 15th at the Pascual Guerrero Stadium in Cali.

The Power Puff Girls are the second highest ranked team in South America and 27th in the World. They were also  the runners up at the 2022 Copa América Femenina losing 1-0 to Brazil. 

The COSAFA Champions were drawn in group C alongside 2011 Champions, Japan, European powerhouse Spain and Costa Rica.

The FIFA Women’s World Cup will be staged from July 20 to August 20 in 2023.
