British Envoy’s support for Lungu is expected

I don’t understand the excitement in the PF camp on the statement supposedly made by a British envoy to Zambia, who said Britain recognises Lungu’s government.
Would you expect an envoy based in Zambia, whose credentials were received and approved by the same Edgar Lungu to say his government does not recognise his presidency? I don’t think even the most deranged envoy cannot do that. They can’t risk spoiling diplomatic ties between their country and Zambia.
There was nothing strange about that statement. It is very much expected.
Even countries like Uganda, DRC and Zimbabwe currently host diplomats from Europe, and they, if asked in public, would claim that they recognise the presidency of Museveni, Kabila and Mugabe (respectively) even when there are known question marks about the election and presidency of these leaders.
