BOUNDARY DISPUTE ENSUES AT BLACK MOUNTAIN

By Michael Kaluba

A boundary dispute has ensued at the black mountain between Nkana Alloy and Smelting Company Limited, the company that owns most of the mineral rich slug dump, and the black mountain consortium running operations at the site.

The government earlier this year gave out its 30 per cent shares in the black mountain to the consortium for various beneficiaries, following a high court judgment that allowed the state to pull out of its partnership with Nkana alloy and smelting company limited last year, preceded by the exhaustion of an initial 10 percent given to the youths through Chapamo Mineral Resources.

Mines and Mineral Resources Minister Paul Kabuswe confirms to Phoenix News that the boundary dispute had arisen but was quickly resolved between his Ministry, the black mountain consortium and officials from Nkana Alloy yesterday, with an agreement on the boundary to be signed today.

Mr. Kabuswe, who could not disclose further details as he was not part of the said meeting, indicated that operations at the black mountain would continue and that the 30 percent meant for various cooperatives is not yet exhausted.

And Black Mountain Consortium Chairperson Kangwa Kamando disclosed that there was initially no agreement with Nkana alloy on the boundary of the 30 percent but that an agreement has now been reached to ensure operations are sustained.
