BLACK MOUNTAIN EMPOWERMENT WILL CONTINUE

By Clinton Masumba

Government says it will continue empowering different vulnerable groups using proceeds of the ore rich black mountain.

This will be done through the Consortium of Cooperatives operating at the mine site.

Kitwe District Commissioner LAWRENCE MWANZA said this after the Empowerment Committee handed over grants to different mobile street vendors in Kitwe.

Mr. MWANZA said this is because the government realizes that not every individual can participate in activities at the black mountain but should benefit through those operating there.

He has indicated that the government is aware of the many vulnerable groups and will continue to empower them as a way of creating jobs.

And Black Mountain Community Empowerment Committee Chairperson IMASIKU NG’UMBI said the decision to empower mobile street vendors does not mean the vice is being encouraged.

Mr. NG’UMBI said the initiative is aimed at supporting their small businesses and allow them to grow so that they stop moving around the streets.
