BATOKA HYDRO TO CREATE 2,450,000 JOBS

The Batoka Gorge Hydro Electric Scheme Project will create over two-million four-hundred and fifty thousand  jobs.
Energy Minister Mathew Nkhuwa revealed this in a communique by the Zambezi River Authority Council of Ministers following the meeting held yesterday in Zimbabwe.
Mr. Nkhuwa says the project is critical to the development of both Zambia and Zimbabwe and the SADC region.
He says the two countries are in the process of assessing ways of empowering and equipping local industries to ensure that most of the raw materials like cement and steel which are major inputs into the construction of the project are produced locally in Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Mr. Nkhuwa said the project will not export jobs but retain them as well as promoting the establishment of new industries and help in the resuscitation of others in the region.
The communique was signed by Mr. Nkhuwa, Minister of Finance Margaret Mwanakatwe, Zimbabwe Energy and Power Development Minister Jorum Gumbo and his Finance& Economic counterpart Professor Mthuli Ncube.
Meanwhile, the Ministers are also impressed with the rehabilitation works at the Kariba Dam.
