BAN ON PIG AND PIG PRODUCT TRADING LIFTED

Government has lifted the ban on trading in pigs and pig products.

Fisheries and Livestock Minister MAKOZO CHIKOTE says normal trade can now resume as the outbreak of the African swine fever disease has been brought under control.

Speaking during a press briefing in Lusaka, Mt. CHIKOTE said government increased funding to livestock disease control activities to ensure the disease is brought under control.Mr. CHIKOTE added that an outbreak of Contagious Bovine Pleuropneumonia -CBPP- recorded in Chisamba and Chibombo districts has been eradicated following interventions that led to the slaughter of about 11,000 cattle in the two district.

He emphasized that all cattle should be subjected to testing before permits for movement are issued and that CBPP surveillance should be heightened at all abattoirs in the country.
