APNAC ASKS MWAMBAZI TO STEP ASIDE FROM PAC

The African Parliamentarians Network Against Corruption -APNAC- Zambia Chapter has asked Public Accounts Committee -PAC- Chairperson WARREN MWAMBAZI to recuse himself from hearing the matter involving the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit -DMMU.

APNAC Secretary General MUNIR ZULU says this follows allegations raised against Mr. MWAMBAZI with respect to his involvement in the questionable supply of Covid-19 items to DMMU amounting to over 14 million Kwacha.

Mr. ZULU says Mr. MWAMBAZI should step aside until such a time when he will be cleared of the allegations which he said make sad reading.

He says this is purely in the spirit of upholding the credibility of the Public Accounts Committee.

Mr. ZULU says he has been following the hearings on the supply of Covid-19 items to the DMMU following the irregularities highlighted in the Auditor General’s report.

He says his organization commends PAC in its continued effort of ensuring that public resources are prudently accounted for.

This is contained in a statement made available to ZNBC news.

AND when contacted for a comment, Mr. MWAMBAZI said he does not want to give credence to the speculation.

Mr. MWAMBAZI said those who are making the allegations should provide evidence if they have any.

He said the matter is also before the speaker of the National Assembly after someone raised a point of Order.
