ANOTHER fake Facebook page in the name of the First Lady, Esther Lungu, has emerged with a promise to help people with start-up opportunities to make thousands of dollars from selling human hair and beauty products.
The page called ‘Esther Lungu’ says that the First Lady is working with an American-based business entity to help business-minded people sell beauty products and make huge profits within the first month.
The page asks those interested to send messages via inbox for details on how to access the start-up package.
Many people responded to the posting believing that it was the First Lady and gave their phone numbers in the dialogue box.
Police spokesperson Esther Katongo said that there were many fake Facebook pages in the name of the First Lady.
She said in an interview yesterday that Police were still investigating all the different cases.
“The investigations take time because the domain of these fake internet accounts are based in other countries,” Ms Katongo said.
She said it took some time to effectively communicate with officials in other countries and each case was given specific attention from the other cases.
Recently, some small-scale farmers in Lusaka were scammed of their money when they contacted a fake Esther Lungu Facebook page.
The posting on that page promised them World Bank funds if they deposited a minimum amount of $50 in a specific account name.
After posting money, the farmers never heard from the administrators of the account and later found out that they were cheated.
Police issued a statement that it had unravelled many fake Facebook accounts opened using the names of prominent people.
The First Lady’s official Facebook account is the Esther Lungu Foundation.
