“ANIMAL WELFARE IMPORTANT”

(NAIS) Fisheries and Livestock Minister MAKOZO CHIKOTE has called for collaborative efforts among livestock players in addressing animal welfare concerns.

Speaking during the Animal Welfare and Protection Stakeholders meeting in Lusaka, Mr. CHIKOTE said animal welfare is becoming an important requirement in international trade and that Zambia must quickly align itself with global animal welfare standards.

Mr. CHIKOTE said there is need for all stakeholders to reflect on the conditions in which livestock and companion animals are raised.

And the Veterinary Association of Zambia -VAZ- President MALCOM CHIYOBA said there is need to address the issue of the information gap regarding animal welfare.
