AMOS CHANDA ARRESTED

The Anti Corruption Commission -ACC- has arrested former State House Press Aide AMOS CHANDA for obstruction and using insulting language, contrary to the laws of Zambia.
ACC Spokesperson QUEEN CHIBWE says Mr. CHANDA has been arrested together with his wife, MABLE and sister-in-law RUTH NAKAUNDI.
Mrs. CHIBWE says Mr. CHANDA has been charged with one count of using insulting language contrary to section 179 of Chapter 87 of the laws of Zambia.
She told Journalists after the arrest of Mr. CHANDA that he has also been charged with another count of obstruction contrary to section 63 section C of the Anti Corruption Act number 3 of 2012.
Mrs. CHIBWE said this development was as a result of an operation conducted by the ACC last week in Lusaka District which resulted in Mr. CHANDA using insulting language likely to give provocation to the named officers so as to cause them to break the peace
and commit an offence.
She said in the second count, Mr. CHANDA and Miss. NAKAUNDI on October 27th, 2021 while acting with others did use insulting language repeatedly on named officers of the commission.
Mrs. CHIBWE disclosed that the trio in the third count did obstruct and delay officers of the ACC in lawful exercise of their duty to search House number 67 in woodlands when they stated that the keys to the bedrooms were with another person purported to ha
e travelled out of town when not.
She said Mr. CHANDA and his team have since been released on police bond and will appear in court soon.
Meanwhile, Mrs. CHIBWE also disclosed that the 95 thousand that was seized by the commission from Mr. CHANDA has been kept as evidence and will be used in court soon.
And when reached for a comment after his arrest Mr. CHANDA said he is clean and in no way corrupt or guilty of any charges imposed on him.
Mr. CHANDA said the truth will be revealed soon, adding that he left the talking to the ACC who had summoned him.
The ACC interrogated Mr. CHANDA for over seven hours at the Anti Corruption House before announcing his arrest.
