All Provinces can trade in pigs except Lusaka-Govt

Mary Kachepa-Government says provinces can trade and move pigs and pig products provided they get a movement permit from the veterinary offices except Lusaka.

Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock Director Veterinary Services says SWITHINE KABILIKA says farmers and traders in provinces outside Lusaka need the permit which will show that the pigs are not infected with the African swine fever.

Mr KABILIKA says two thousand and 15 pigs have been killed in Lusaka following the outbreak of the African swine fever.

He so far 20 farms were found positive with the African Swine fever out of 51 farms that were tested which had over 13 thousand pigs.

Mr KABILIKA told ZNBC News in an interview the most affected parts in Lusaka are Chilanga, Choongwe and Kafue.

He has urged farmers in Lusaka to avoid engaging in illegal movement of pigs to other places because the ban is still in effect.

Mr KABILIKA said there was one case where a trader illegally moved pigs to Chililabombwe which after testing were negative but were killed because they were moved illegally
