All political party leaders should promote unity and peace in diversify, says Miles Sampa

UNITED Democratic Front (UDF) president Miles Sampa has urged all political party leaders to promote unity and peace in diversify.
Sampa said in a statement issued in Lusaka that he had noted with sadness the acrimonious divisions and anxiety that has gripped the nation following the just ended August 11, 2016 General elections.

He also noted that the leader of the nation had emerged and for development, peace and unity, there was need to support that leader as elections and campaigns had passed.

“As in any competition, for instance in the game of football, there can only be one winner at the end of 90 minutes when the referee blows the final whistle,” Sampa said.

“In the past 15 years, I have participated actively in all our general elections, i have been part of a team that has lost some and won some.”

The UDF president revealed that he had learnt to move once the final whistle has been blown at all times and regardless of any perceived disputes, for the sake of over 15 million Zambians.

“As leaders, it is paramount that we consider the welfare of all Zambians we wish to serve before anything else,” he said.
“I may have had my views pre-election day, but what matters in this post election era is peace and unity.”

He observed that leaders were chosen by God and that there was time for everything.

Sampa further acknowledged respect and supported the re-election of President Edgar Lungu.

“This is now time for healing the nation through reconciliation and forgiveness so that the president can effectively serve Zambians,” Sampa said.

The political leader also said it was clear that the nation needed peace and unity regardless of diverse political views and pledge that he would play his role as a unifying factor and travel across the country to preface unity and peace.

He added that there could only be one president at a time and it was incumbent upon all peace loving Zambians to honour and respect the president.

“I therefore congratulate and wish President Edgar Chagwa Lungu and the Vice President Inonge Wina a successful five year term,” said Sampa.
