AG AUDIT REPORT SIMPLIFIED

The Office of the Auditor General has launched the simplified version of its report on audit accounts for local authorities, aimed at generating interest among citizens.

The simplified version of the Auditor General’s report is for the financial years ended 31st December 2018 and 2019.

Auditor General Dick Sichembe says the simplified reports do not replace the main reports but enhance the understanding among citizens and generates interest on the audit findings to help make officers accountable.

Launching the report in Kasama today, Dr. Sichembe said the simplified version of local authorities reports, just like the simplified main report launched recently, is illustrative in nature with cartoons and uses information graphics for easy understanding

And Dr. Sichembe said mismanagement of public resources leads to poverty and lack of development hence urging public officers to prudently utilise them.

He expressed concern that queries like poor contract management which have the potential of pushing prices upwards have continued arising.

And Northern Province Permanent Secretary Royd Chakaba said the Provincial administration has been ensuring that it allocates resources to all the needs in the province.

Mr. Chakaba said Dr. Sichembe’s visit has given his office hope and impetus to do the right thing in managing public resources.
