African MPs devise ways of fighting illicit financial flows

Paul Shalala-Over 70 Members of Parliament from across Africa are meeting in Lusaka to come up with ways in which the continent can fight illicit financial flows.

The meeting has been organized by Tax Justice Network Africa and the Center for Trade Policy and Development.

African Parliamentary Network on Illicit Financial Flows and Taxation Chairperson KHANYISILE TSHABALALA has told ZNBC News that Africa is underdeveloped because a lot of money which is supposed to be realized from its mineral wealth leaves the continent.

Dr. TSHABALALA said Members of Parliament are now meeting to find ways in which they can contribute to the reduction in illicit financial flows.

And outgoing Member of the East African Legislative Assembly NANCY ABISAI called on African governments to show political will by ensuring that Africa gets its rightful share from the mining sector.

And Zambezi East Member of Parliament BRIAN KAMBITA said lawmakers are committed to fighting the externalization of money from Africa.
