ADVOCATE FOR PEACEFUL POLLS -CHITIMUKULU

 

(zanis) Luapula Province Permanent Secretary CHARLES MUSHOTA has applauded Chiefs in Luapula Province for advocating for peace during the campaign period.

Mr. MUSHOTA has since appealed to Chiefs to work together in sensitising people on the importance of the electoral process.

The Permanent Secretary was speaking in Mansa at the crowning of Traditional Leaders in Luapula as Champions of Voter Sensitisation and Peaceful Elections.

He noted that the gesture by traditional leaders to lead in advocating for peace shows that the country has patriotic citizens.

Mr. MUSHOTA however says the current phenomenon where voter apathy is on the rise is pausing a danger to Zambia’s democratic credentials.

He said it is commendable that the Movement for Voter Sensitisation -MVS- has embarked on a robust program aimed at addressing voter apathy.

Meanwhile, Paramount Chief CHITIMUKULU has urged traditional leaders in Luapula province to advocate for peaceful election campaigns.

Chief CHITIMUKULU who is the Patron for the Movement for Voter Apathy Sensitisation observes that it is a concern that people today are divided due to politics instead of living in harmony.

He noted that Traditional Leaders should be at the centre of championing Dr. KENNETH KAUNDA’s One Zambia One Nation motto to their subjects.

And Luapula Province Chiefs Council Representative Senior Chief MWEWA, said Chiefs in Luapula will continue to advocate for peaceful campaigns.

Chief MWEWA said Chiefs in the Province will work together to ensure there is a huge voter turnout during the voting day on August 12, 2021.

Thirty-three Chiefs and some members of the clergy including the Permanent Secretary were crowned as Champions of Voter Sensitisation and Peaceful Elections in Luapula province.
