Lusaka, Zambia24 – (1-05-2024) – Zambia’s economic challenges have reached a critical point, prompting ActionAid Zambia to issue a fervent call for action.

The organization is highlighting the severe impact of economic woes and persistent power shortages on both operational efficiency and the livelihoods of workers.

Interim Country Director Jovina Nawenzake praised the resilience of Zambian workers amid adversity, while also stressing the urgent need for intervention.

“The economic conditions and prolonged electricity load-shedding are significantly impacting productivity and workers’ livelihoods,” Nawenzake emphasized.

To address these challenges, Nawenzake proposed practical solutions such as exploring affordable fuel options and establishing a public transportation system to alleviate the financial strain on households.

She also called for immediate action to address high inflation and urged recognition of the pressing issues faced by workers across various sectors.

While appreciating the contributions of workers, Nawenzake highlighted significant obstacles hindering their productivity and well-being, advocating for proportional wage increases and urgent action to address fuel accessibility and affordability.

She emphasized the importance of investing in workers’ welfare for Zambia’s economic resilience and growth.

Nawenzake extended warm wishes to all workers, reaffirming ActionAid Zambia’s commitment to advocating for their rights and well-being, and urging collective efforts to prioritize workers as the driving force behind Zambia’s journey towards a brighter future.
