ABOUT 18 TEACHERS THAT WERE SECONDED UNDER AN MOU SIGNED BETWEEN ZAMBIA AND SEYCHELLES IN 2018 HAVE NOT BEEN REDEPLOYED SINCE THEIR RETURN IN 2021

About 18 teachers that had been seconded to Seychelles under a memorandum of understanding signed in 2018 between that government and Zambia have not been redeployed since their return in 2021.

Under the MOU, the Zambian government would send teachers to Seychelles on a two year renewable contract but those that wanted to return at the end of their first two years were assured of being redeployed and put on the Zambian payroll.

However, some teachers who were seconded have disclosed that despite following the right procedure upon their return, the government has continued to issue them with conflicting statements on the matter.

The affected teachers who spoke on condition of anonymity have told phoenix news that they are now living in destitution as no clear roadmap on the matter has been given by the ministry of education and the teaching service commission.

But in an interview with Phoenix News, Ministry Of Education Permanent Secretary Joel Kamoko, has assured the affected teachers that they will be given their places provided they have not reached the retirement age.
Mr. Kamoko has since advised the teachers to visit his office to determine where the problem is.
