MOSHO petitions court to deregister PF

By Hannock Kasama

Prominent Lusaka Lawyer LEWIS MOSHO has filed a suit demanding an order that the Patriotic Front -PF- be de-registered because of four million kwacha owed to him.

Mr. MOSHO has sought the Court Order to direct the Minister of Home Affairs to declare the PF as an unlawful party or society in public interest.

He says the PF cannot continue to incur financial obligations which it cannot clear.

Mr. MOSHO is also seeking a court order to appoint an independent person or officer as contemplated under the Society Act to wind up the affairs of the PF and to pay its creditors as envisaged by the Society Act.

This is according to the Writ of Summons filed in the LUSAKA High Court.

Mr. MOSHO has also sued the Attorney General as the defendant in the matter.

His action  is premised on  the failure by the PF to pay him four million KWACHA debt in legal fees incurred as his firm LEWIS NATHAN Advocates represented  the party in eight election petitions, among them two appeals, arising from the 2021 General Election.

According  to the letter of demand for the de-registration of  the PF dated September 15, 2022 and written to  the Minister of Home Affairs, Mr. MOSHO claims that his Law Firm has relentlessly made futile attempts to recover legal fees from the PF.

He laments that it has been over one year since the debt was incurred.

Mr. MOSHO further states that the PF has resorted to declining correspondence from his Law Firm over the claims of  the legal fees.
