9 CHIEFS GET $3.1M IN CARBON CREDITS

Government says it will champion the use of climate resilient crops in view of the climate change effects.

Green Economy and Environment Minister COLLINS NZOVU says climate change has brought a lot of hazards to crops especially in rural areas.

Mr. NZOVU has also indicated that a draft Climate Change Bill is at an advanced stage of formulation, which will strengthen response to the challenge.

The Minister said this in a speech read on his behalf by Acting Permanent Secretary PEGGY CHIRWA during the handover of over 3.1 million dollars Carbon credits to Nine Chiefs in Eastern Province by the Community Markets for Conservation -COMACO- in Lusaka today.

Meanwhile, COMACO Chief Executive Officer DALE LEWIS said there is need to rally all small scale farmers to preserve Zambia’s forests and wildlife.

And, Senior Chief MWASENTHEMBWE of Eastern Province, who represented the traditional leaders thanked COMACO for the support.
