55 Private Higher Education Institutions Registered

The Higher Education Authority –HEA- has, as of 16th October 2019 registered 55 private higher education institutions.

The 55 when combined have a total of 61 campuses across the country.

Authority Cooperate Communications Officer, Birbal Musoba explains that in accordance with statutory instrument no. 25 of 2016 part 2 section 5 (2), the registration of higher education institution is campus specific, which means that each institution is registered for a particular location and as such, each location requires to have its own registration.

Addressing the media in Lusaka this morning, Mr Musoba however said the authority has noted with regret a trend where registered HEIS are opening and operating campuses that have not been assessed and registered by the higher education authority to offer higher education in Zambia.

Mr Musoba says the authority therefore warns all registered HEIS that have unregistered campuses that they are contravening the higher education act no. 4 of 2013 part 4 section 23 (1) b and are at risk of facing deregistration.
