The disaster has occured due to flooding of Lusangazi river following heavy rains experienced in the area from wednesday this week.Lusangazi District Commissioner, Goldwin Phiri, who was accompanied by Council Chairperson William Banda visited the affected families who have been camped at Sandwe Primary School, St Ignatius Catholic Church and St Andrews Anglican Church in Sandwe area, assured them of Governments assistance. Mr. Phiri said his office through the Office of the Vice President will ensure that affected families are assisted because President Edgar Lungu does not want any Zambian to suffer.And Mr. Banda said his office will work hand in hand with the office of the District Commissioner to consolidate a report on the disaster that has occured in Sandwe Chiefdom so that the affected families are assisted as soon as possible.Meanwhile,  Chief Sandwe’s representative, Raphael Baluwa said the floods have also affected most crop fields have been completely washed away.And a 70 year old woman from Sandwe Village, Elesi Chupa, whose house has collapsed and fields washed away has appealed to Government to assisted her with temporary tents and relief food.
