$32m Private Hospital Opens in Lusaka

By Brian Mwale Vice President Inonge Wina has officially opened the 32-million dollar Medland private hospital which offers specialized medical services.Mrs. Wina is impressed that Medland is Zambia’s first private hospital to have a fully fledged cardiac surgical unit equipped with the latest technology and expertise that can cater to a diverse array of cardiac conditions.She is optimistic that the 78 bed space facility will supplement government efforts of improving access to medical services for citizens.Launching the hospital in Lusaka today Mrs. Wina noted that apart from providing open heart surgeries the hospital will also offer anti aging facilities among other services.She noted that government is committed to among others increase health facilities through Public Private Partnership ventures and explore areas of collaboration for future purposes.Mrs. Wina also expressed delight that the hospital has created 200 full time jobs of which 70 percent are locals while 30 percent expatriate staff is facilitating skills development and knowledge transfer.And Minister of Health Chitalu Chilufya reiterated government’s political will in ensuring that no Zambian is left behind in accessing health services.Dr. Chilufya noted that human capital development is key in health service delivery.And Medland Board Chairman Fouad El Sahely said the hospital will also cut down on repatriation of patients abroad.And in a vote of thanks Hospital Chief Executive Officer Mohamed El Sahili thanked Zambia for promoting investment in the health sector.Dr. Sahili noted that the hospital has also invited Zambian medical experts working abroad to come back home as specialized equipment is now available.
