(ZANIS ) Three hundred and 22 members from the opposition UPND in Buleya ward of Kalabo central Constituency have defected to the ruling PF.
Receiving the defectors, Western Province PF Mobilisation Coordinator Glen Kalimbwe, said the ruling party has become more popular in a province that was a UPND stronghold.
Mr. Kalimbwe said the PF in Western province will continue to grow as many people have seen how it is delivering development in the area.
He said for the first time in the history of the province, the PF under President Edgar Lungu is implementing the multi-million-dollar water reticulation project which will end water problems.
The defectors include the entire UPND Buleya ward executive committee and other ordinary members of the opposition.
Former UPND Ward Chairperson Kayombo Mushibi said the past two years in the opposition has been full of frustrations hence his decision to join the PF.
And Former UPND Buleya ward chairlady in charge of women, Bwemba Kawewe said the women cannot sit behind and watch how their colleagues are progressing in the PF through various empowerment programmes.
And Former Kalabo lawmaker in the MMD government Richard Mwapelwa who also served as deputy minister for Western province, said records are there to prove how the PF has worked in the province despite people clinging to the opposition for decades.
