28 UPND cadres arrested in Kasama for tearing PF posters, says Bonny Kapeso

TWENTY-eight UPND cadres have been arrested for tearing PF posters and being found with offensive weapons.

Northern Province police commissioner Bonny Kapeso said of the 28, 4 are the ring leaders who locked themselves up.

“When information reached me, we wanted to see what was happening. They ran into their opposition leader’s house, GBM’s place. We followed them and told them to come out, they couldn’t…they went inside…we fought our way inside and told them to come out, they couldn’t,” Mr. Kapeso said.

“The ring leaders decided to lock themselves in the bedroom and the law provides that if you are pursuing a suspect who goes into a building or a structure, you don’t need a search warrant. We had to fish them out but others remained locked up.”

Mr. Kapeso police managed to open the door where others were hiding where they found five bottles of petrol bomb that UPND cadres had prepared and other offensive weapons which they got as evidence in the courts of law.

He said he was not going to tolerate violence in Northern Province, adding that anyone who engaged in violence would be dealt with.
Mr. Kapeso said he will not allow people to take the law into their own hands.
