ZIBSIP Students Stage Protest over Prolonged Lecturers Boycott

Students at the Zambia Institute of Business Studies and Industrial Practice (ZIBSIP) have staged a peaceful protest demanding an explanation from management as to why classes are not taking place following lecturers’ staging a sitting protest that has entered day three.

The Unionised lecturers continued with their sitting protest for a second day (Tuesday) which has forced a peaceful protest from students especially those in examination classes.

A check at the Institution found students outside seeking an engagement with the principal over the situation while lecturers watched from a distance.

The students complained that some of them had examinations in two weeks.

They said the protest by the lecturers had negatively affected them.

“We are just surprised that lecturers are not coming to teach us and no one has told us anything, right now we are waiting for the principal to come and address us. Some of us are in examination classes and how are we going to prepare for the examinations?” one of the students questioned.

However, their peaceful protest was cut shot after police in full riot gear arrived at the institution to keep vigil.

The police presence intimidated students who receded to their comfort zone.

But when contacted, ZIBSIP Principal Kedrick Lungwe expressed regret that students resorted to protesting at a time management was trying to resolve the issue.
