ZIBSIP Students Protest Over Loadshedding Schedule At The Institution

By Michael Kaluba

Zambia institute of business studies and industrial practice-ZIBSIP- students in Kitwe this morning staged a protest and boycotted class in a bid to urge power utility zesco to review the load shedding schedule at the institution.
This follows persistent long hours of load-shedding at the institution which has resulted in students facing challenges using toilets and bathrooms during the night due to a lack of electricity to power up water pumps.

Some of the students talked to by phoenix news complained that loadshedding begins at 18:00 hours on a daily basis to 08:30 hours the following morning resulting in water challenges and students failure to study overnight.

And addressing the students, ZIBSIP principal Francis Bwalya said the school management had already written to ZESCO over the matter and was only waiting for a response.
Meanwhile, ZIBSIP students’ union vice President Mwape Lukonde who accompanied the management for an impromptu meeting at ZESCO, confirmed to his fellow students that management had already engaged the power utility over the matter.

ZESCO limited recently announced that the company would commence loadshedding Copperbelt areas from 07:00 hours to 17:00 hours in a bid to help the security situation but the complaints from ZIBSIP suggest that this has not been implemented yet.
