ZESCO Warns Consumers Of Cheating Prepaid Metres

Zambia Electricity Supply Corporation (ZESCO) Spokesperson Henry Kapata has warned members of the public not to be putting bottles of water on top of their metres in a quest to preserve power units.

Mr  Kapata wondered why people in Livingstone and other parts of Southern Province who have even completed Grade 12 have fallen prey to what he termed as a primitive theory.

He emphasised that putting a bottle or container with water on top of the metre would never make the units not to run out faster because the current prepaid metres are digital and water would never make them reduce the consumption.

He warned that if water leaks into the metre, the gadget will not only get damaged but lead to a short circuit thereby making a building or house to catch fire.

He stated that damaging the prepaid metre will simply lead to a vandalism case.
