ZESCO To Hike Electricity Tariffs In First Week Of October 2019

Power utility Company Zesco says there will be an upward adjustment of electricity tariffs once the company starts the importation of electricity from South Africa on 1st October 2019.

Addressing the media in Lusaka today, Zesco Acting Managing Director Webster Musonda says the importation will done for a period of six months at a total cost of over $21 million.

Mr Musonda explains that the decision will help to cushion the current power deficit of about 690 megawatts that the country is facing.

He also indicated that once the importation commences, the utility company will review the current load shedding schedule.
