ZANEC CALLS FOR DECOLONIZATION OF ZAMBIAN EDUCATION SYSTEM

By Lukundo Nankamba

The Zambia National Education Coalition -ZANEC- has called for the decolonization of the Zambian education system in order to live with the realities of the modern world and respond to the problems the country is faced with in the education sector.

Speaking during a sensitization meeting on decolonization of education for students and management in Lusaka today, ZANEC Board member Christine Menda said there has been a growing outcry by students to decolonize the system to suit and foster development of education in Zambia.

Ms. Menda explained that it is for this reason that if this is to take place, representation from all stakeholders such as staff, students and educators should be provided.

Meanwhile, University of Zambia Professor of History, Bizeck Phiri said knowledge for revision starts with the young generation and all this can be achieved if proper measures and monitoring tools are put in place to decolonize institutional spaces.
