ZAMBIA’S ABILITY TO ATTAIN PROJECTED 4.7% GDP GROWTH RATE FOR 2024 DOUBTED

Economist Emmanuel Zulu has expressed skepticism about Zambia’s ability to attain the projected 4.7% GDP growth rate for 2024, as projected by the International Monetary Fund –IMF-.
Recently the IMF had revised its growth projection for Zambia, indicating an optimistic 4.7% GDP growth rate in 2024.
However, Mr Zulu has highlighted the absence of a comprehensive debt resolution as a major obstacle to the country’s economic prospects.
In an interview with Phoenix News, Mr Zulu cautioned that ongoing delays in debt restructuring talks, coupled with weak economic fundamentals and external challenges, particularly in the energy sector, could hinder Zambia’s ability to achieve the growth target.
Mr Zulu says going forward, factors such as inflation, volatile exchange rate and fiscal policies must be addressed to create a conducive environment for sustainable economic development.
