ZAMBIANS ASSURED OF REDUCED COMMODITY PRICES DUE TO POSITIVE ECONOMIC OUTLOOK

By Lukundo Nankamba

The Southern Africa Cross Border Traders Association –SACBTA- has assured Zambians that they will soon begin to see a reduction in prices of essential commodities following improvements in the economy.

Association Secretary General Jacob Makambwe has appealed to the public demanding that traders reduce prices for their commodities to exercise patience as businesses operate differently.

Mr. Makambwe says he has been receiving reports that consumers want commodity price reduction following the appreciation of the kwacha and reduction in fuel prices.

He tells Phoenix News in an interview that as the economic fundamentals changes there is always an economical expectation and overtime this will eventually trickle down to reduction in commodity prices.

Mr. Makambwe has also urged government to reduce the cost of production in order for the economy to have commodities that can be taken for exports and reduce dependency on importation.
