Zambia, Malawi Set For Boxing Friendly

ZAMBIA and Malawi will next week take part in an international friendly boxing tournament at the Olympic Youth Development Centre in Lusaka.

The tournament is part of the country’s preparations for the upcoming 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia.

Malawi’s national boxing team arrives in Zambia on Friday March 16, a day before the tournament.

Zambia Boxing Federation general secretary Bright Chomba said the event would also serve as the opening tournament for the 2018 boxing season.

“It will also be spiced up by other boxers who are not Commonwealth bound and it will also act as a season-opening tournament because of the provincial teams,” said Chomba.

The 2018 Commonwealth Games, officially known as the XXI Commonwealth Games, is an international multi-sport event for members of the Commonwealth and will be held on the Gold Coast, Queensland between April 4 and 15.
