The Non-Governmental Gender Organisation Coordinating council -NGOCC- is disappointed with the removal of the gender equity and equality commission from the 2019 proposed constitution bill number 10 on grounds that it is catered for in subsidiary legislation.

Addressing the media in Lusaka today, organisation board chairperson Mary Mulenga has also demanded for the release of the outcome document of the commission that was charged with receiving countrywide submissions on how to address political violence saying reducing the campaign period from three months to 60 days does not cure worrying aspects of political violence.

Mrs. Mulenga has therefore urged President Edgar Lungu to build consensus on the current constitution making process by listening to people’s voices and withdraw retrogressive provisions such as the reintroduction of deputy ministers among others.

Meanwhile, Zambia Federation of Disability organisation chairperson of the technical working group Josephine Shinakila says the organisation’s is in the national dialogue forum resolutions for the inclusion of the marginalized group of people in society through the mixed member proportion representation.

Ms. Shinakila says the organisation believes the paradigm shift will realize its dreams of doing things with persons with disabilities as opposed to the past where things were being done for persons with disabilities.

She has since proposed that a 10% quota of the total number of seats in parliament be reserved for persons with disabilities and in line with the sadc and au protocols 30% of total number of seats be reserved for the marginalized groups.
