Will Continue Fighting Corruption-UPP

We want to leave a legacy of fighting corruption and theft by Government officials, says  United Progressive People(UPP) Acting Secretary General Philip Matavu.

Matavu said UPP would like to be remembered as one party  that contributed to the fight against corruption.

He said despite  suffering setback in their watchdog job in view of politically motivated charges  like the one endured by UPP president Saviuor Chishimba, the party will not relent in exposing corrupt acts  by Government officials.

He said the ‘bring back our money campaign’ will not phase out until it achieves its purpose.

“Late President Levy  Mwanawasa meant business when he took a stance against  corruption. He believed in the rule of law and Justice for all. Mwanawasa also contributed in building and strengthening institutions of democracy. For this, Mwanawasa is remembered as the Justice man. In the same way, UPP  would like its name to go in the books of history as a party that contributed to the fight against corruption,” Matavu said.

Through its own investigations, UPP exposed one of the most sophisticated government to government maize scams involving Zambia and Malawi.

The Malawian Agriculture   Minister was fired and  arrested by the joint investigative wing of government.

However, there has been no action on the Zambian side.

Chief Justice Irene Mambilima refused to set up a tribunal to probe Agriculture Minister Dora Siliya, saying she is ‘innocent’.
