UTH Scores a Major First

A COMBINED team of Neurosurgeons and ENT surgeons at UTH yesterday successfuly removed a tumor from the middle of the brain through the nose of a patient.The complex operation dubbed Transnasal Trans-sphenoidal approach began yesterday at 14:00 hours and ended at 21:00 hours last night.The first ever land mark operation was conducted by a group composed of purely Zambian surgeons .And the patient has woken up and is in a stable condition.Over the years, many patients with such complications have been travelling to India for the surgery.Among the Doctors that participated in the surgery include Dr Harrison Phiri, Dr Brian Mwila and Dr Peter Mushenya, Mildred Nakazwe-Chila, Dr Nashati, sister Chileshe, and Amon Silomba.
